In Practice

MEDIA COVERAGE

STRATEGY AND ANALYSIS

Our strategic contribution varies from client to client. In some cases, our initial role is to diagnose from where a communications problem or block arises, before identifying how to resolve it.

In others, we are called in to analyse the environment around and in which an issue or campaign will need to be run, before going on to outline the strategy and operational plan that flows from it.

We might approach these scenarios in a number of ways: by taking a detailed brief or running development sessions with stakeholders; by interviewing key staff; by conducting research; or by talking to the media and other players.

The strategies are often augmented by message pathways, campaign frames, and tools to help people use the new approach in practice.

We're always available to offer strategic advice to our clients; indeed we act as Communications Adviser to a number of organisations.

OPERATIONAL SCOPING, PLANNING AND EXECUTION

Running any service or performing any task internationally, in different languages, while maintaining the integrity of a message, requires exceptional planning skills.

Our experience enables us to scope operational work effectively and understand the likely challenges and necessary contingencies in different parts of the world.

This means we catch problems before they unfold and deliver what is asked of us effectively and to deadline.

We have worked in every region of the world and manage budgets on behalf of our clients in excess of half a million GBP annually.

PRODUCTION

We can produce anything and have been asked to do just that - from traditional pens, t-shirts, goody bags, Powerpoint presentations and photo exhibitions to fish-shaped USB sticks, cartoons, snow globes, inflatable fish, portable film shows and cappuccino stencils!

Many of the more unusual products were our suggestion - and the perfect way to get our clients' messages across.

We're highly experienced in publication production, from outline and copy writing through to design, translation, printing and dispatch. We produce hundreds of different publications each year and can manage the entire process for our clients.

We also manage the development and running of a series of websites and campaign pages.

MEDIA RELATIONS

We have strong contacts within the world's media, across a range of different media types but with a particular leaning towards opinion-forming media outlets and writers.

Our team is experienced in working with the media both remotely and on the ground. We act as on-location press person for our clients, for example, within the United Nations in New York and the Parliament and Commission in Brussels, and at many UN and intergovernmental fora, such as the Climate Talks.

We run press conferences, briefings and one-to-one meetings for our clients; set up features and filming opportunities; generate media materials, including press packs and releases; generate key media messages and soundbites; and develop sophisticated media plans for generating coverage in different parts of the world.

TRAINING AND BUDDYING

We provide tailored interview training for organisation spokespeople, using experienced trainers, broadcast journalists and camera operators, so our clients gain as real an experience as possible.

The team provides intensive training before conducting a series of interviews followed by feedback and advice, which could include helping to improve messages or soundbites; clients are given a DVD of the mock interviews with personalised notes and reminders.

In many cases, clients chose to develop this training at different points in their work, to help their spokespeople deal with ever more-challenging interview formats.

In addition, we provide a buddying service for senior in-house communications staff, who can benefit from discussing new ideas or problems with an external person with an understanding of their work and organisational challenges.

FACILITATION

We help our clients develop meeting approaches and formats to achieve specific goals, and then facilitate these meetings.

EVENT MANAGEMENT

We can manage a diverse range of events: film shows; scientist tours; campaign launches; ministerial meetings; ambassadorial dinners; cocktail receptions; UN side events; protests; celebrity and royal visits; photo calls; street theatre; non-violent direct action; speaking tours; award ceremonies; press conferences; simulcasts; webcasts...

MULTI-MEDIA

We produce b-rolls for use by the world's media and cut films of different lengths for use by broadcasters. We make campaign films and web shorts and manage animation projects.

In addition, we have developed web tools, such as the Global Wind Energy Council 'Pass It On' widget or the 'Deep Trouble' Design a Creature gizmo.
